NEW PUPPY GUIDE

PUPPY FOOD
We feed Purina Pro Plan Puppy Chicken & Rice Formula. Your puppy will eat 3/4 cup three times a day at 8 weeks of age.

For times when your dog has loose stool, (ie upset stomach or sensitive GI) this will firm the stool right up. Keep a small bag on hand for when you need it.

Chew treats- always supervise your puppy.

COLLAR & LEASH
Your puppy will come with a puppy collar and leash. Once he outgrows it you can purchase a larger collar and sturdier leash. Lupine pet makes exceptional collars that are guaranteed even if chewed and pair up well with these engraveable tags from Boomerang tags. A flexi leash can also come in handy.

PUPPY TOYS

These are toys your puppy played with while in our care and ones we recommend for this age. When their puppy teeth fall out they can become aggressive chewers. Try not to get them toys that are so hard on their teeth that they could damage them or wear them down prematurely. We are not big fans of squeaker toys because of the possibility of swallowing the squeaker and they can create bad mouthing habits.

CRATES & BEDS

For a house crate, we recommend a 36” wire crate with and the divider (the double doors are a useful feature but not required). These are customizable and you can increase their size as the dog grows with a moveable panel on the inside. This crate stays in the house where it is.

For vehicles, a hard-sided plastic travel crate works well. A smaller crate keeps your puppy safer than a larger crate where he will get bounced around as you drive. You can upgrade to a larger crate once he outgrows the puppy crate.

If you plan to fly with your puppy in the cabin, check with your airline for the specifications on the carrier dimensions but generally this size works well. Make sure to get a carrier that opens from the top.

Your puppy will appreciate any type of dog bed and this will also serve as a starting point to teach your dog to go lay down or "place." A cot type bed is also a good idea if you want to get a second bed.

OTHER SUPPLIES

Nail Trimmers- you can start off trimming your puppy's nails with this type of scissor type tools (we like the Safari brand as it cuts sharp) and then graduate to a dremmel. Rotationg dremmel type tools are so much easier and better to use as they allow you to remove just a sliver of the nail so you avoid cutting the quick and you can also shape the nail rounding off the sharp edges. If you happen to make the nail bleed, styptic powder is good to have on hand.

Miracle Care R-7 Ear Powder, Step 1. This powder contains Rosin and when applied to the hair in the Griff's ear makes it very easy to grip and pull out.

Cordless Rechargeable Electric Pet Trimmer- so handy to trim hair (ie. underneath feet, around ears etc)
